Youth Summer Workshop & Production 2005

The workshop will be run by Sophie Martin, a qualified teacher of Drama and English from the UK with 13 years teaching and work experience. The workshop is based on the script of the youth production: Eclipse by Simon Armitage which will be performed in July at Ranga Shankara.

ECLIPSE by Simon Armitage

Simon Armitage is a well known poet in the U.K. He weaves prose and poetry together to make an exciting script.Eclipse is set in August 1999, on the day of a total eclipse of the sun. Six friends are called to the police station to give evidence about the appearance and disappearance of the strange Lucy Lime—“I’m a walking Universe, I am”—whom they met out on the beach beneath the cliffs on the day of the eclipse. Their soliloquies are interwoven with the scenes on that day.This play is part of an anthology of plays for young people brought out as part of the Shell Connections project in association with the National Theatre and the Foyle Foundation.
