Photography Exibition - February 19, 2005

Vaishnavi sends us this information

India Foundation for the Arts

takes pleasure in inviting you to
presentations to be made by two of our grantees – photographer Sandesh
Bhandare from Pune, and filmmaker Nishtha Jain from Mumbai – on
February 19, 2005.

Sandesh Bhandare will present a slide show of his photographic journey
with Tamasha artists at 7.00 pm, to be followed by a screening of
Nishtha Jain's recent film City of Photos at 8.00 pm. The
presentations will be held at The Park Hotel, 14/7, M.G Road,
Bangalore.

Sandesh Bhandare has been on the road for the past couple of years,
accompanying Tamasha troupes on tour in the villages of Konkan,
Marathwada and Vidarbha. The IFA grant enabled him to capture the
lifestyles, world-views and performances of Tamasha artists in over
7000 photographs – resulting in a fascinating and comprehensive record
of the entire repertoire of the form. His photographs have been
exhibited throughout Western India.

Nishtha Jain's film City of Photos is a personal journey into
neighbourhood photo studios in Indian cities. The city itself forms a
backdrop to her explorations of the fantasy world of photo studios.
Juxtaposed with the dreamscape of the portrait photograph is the urban
visual landscape, and the film considers the demands this makes on and
contrasts it offers to the private world of studio photography.

We look forward to your presence on this occasion. Please be seated by
6.45 pm. Please also confirm your attendance as soon as possible.

Warm regards,
